Our Approach to Innovation
Research. Test. Observe. Breakthrough. Optimize.
Environmental remediation is becoming increasingly complex. Delivering productive, long-term outcomes requires continuous evaluation, adaptation, and the application of new approaches. At VIYA, innovation is not a feature; it is the foundation of how we operate.
Our Philosophy
Innovate with Purpose
A single-technology mindset is no longer sufficient to address today’s complex environmental remediation challenges. Lasting remediation success requires multiple pathways, grounded in science and tailored to the realities of each site.
Our approach to innovation follows the same philosophy: bringing together scientific rigor, applied research, technical expertise, and practical knowledge to uncover more effective solutions and advance better outcomes.
Science
Through partnerships with leading universities and research institutions, we advance the science and engineering of in-situ thermal remediation, environmental chemistry and microbiological remediation approaches.
Knowledge
We combine the latest scientific research with real data from the field – our advanced monitoring programs provide insight into how treatments interact with geology and contaminants. We put this intelligence to work to creatively iterate and discover new pathways.
Experimentation
Pilot testing allows us to evaluate technologies in a controlled, measured way before broader implementation. These pilots help confirm performance, identify practical considerations, refine designs, and support confident, well-informed decisions about scaling.
Expertise
We bring 60 combined years of field-proven experience, 17 patents in in-situ treatment and PFAS remediation, and a track record of solving contamination challenges that conventional approaches could not handle.
Innovation in Action
Inventing the Toolbox for PFAS Bioremediation Destruction
PFAS has become the defining remediation challenge of this generation. For years, PFAS strategies have centered around containment, transfer, and long-term management. VIYA is pioneering new technologies focused on PFAS destruction, emerging from our innovation approach.
Science
VIYA’s patented BAM™ methodology is built on a carbon-based substrate derived from pyrolyzed recycled biomass. In the subsurface, it acts as an absorption medium, supports microbial communities, and creates conditions that enable co-metabolic PFAS transformation.
Knowledge
While deploying a carbon-based absorption technology at a site with complex mixed-contaminant profiles, our researchers observed that microbial communities already active in treating other contaminants appeared to influence the transformation of PFAS through natural co-metabolic pathways.
Experimentation
VIYA began to apply a biological treatment method that identified microbes already present in the contaminated site’s soil and groundwater and reintroduce them into a treatment zone incorporating BAM™. Within only a few months, monitoring showed PFAS concentration reductions of up to 90 percent within the source area and over 99% in the same well after one year.
Expertise
While BAM can reduce contaminant mass and mobility, its greatest value is shrinking the treatment footprint to make follow-on thermal treatment more effective and efficient. Understanding both biological and thermal remediation applications, VIYA is shaping new multi-technology approaches to PFAS remediation.
Patented Innovations
Developing Tomorrow’s Remediation Best Practices
VIYA’s technical leadership has contributed to industry guidance documents, regulatory training initiatives, and 17 patents that define our remediation technologies and approaches. Our bold vision to eliminate contaminants of concern from the earth’s soil and water guides our pursuit to create and commercialize the next generation of remediation solutions.
ET-DSP™
Electro-Thermal Dynamic Stripping Process (ET-DSP™)
VIYA’s patented Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) method that increases subsurface temperatures uniformly and volatilizes contamination effectively. This advanced technology improves performance, shortens cleanup timelines, and uses energy more efficiently.
IT-DSP™
Inductive-Thermal Dynamic Stripping Process (IT-DSP™)
VIYA’s advanced Thermal Conductive Heating (TCH) technology, utilizing induction-based heating with integrated real-time monitoring and dynamic process control. Engineered for complex geologic conditions and difficult contaminant profiles, IT-DSP™ delivers industry-leading thermal performance and highly uniform subsurface heating for treatment of the most persistent contaminants.
BAM™
Bioavailable Absorbent Media (BAM™)
VIYA’s flagship sorption technology, a proprietary carbon-based sorbent manufactured from recyclable biomass. Its unique honeycomb microstructure captures and retains a wide range of contaminants — including PFAS, metals, and organics — while promoting microbial colonization and biodegradation.
AOTECH™
Advanced Oxidation Technology (AOTech™)
VIYA’s patented advanced oxidation process for wastewater treatment that generates free radicals to destroy contaminants quickly and efficiently — without creating harmful byproducts.

Our Technology Agnostic Approach
Charting New Paths in Remediation
VIYA is uniquely set to lead this new frontier in environmental remediation, transforming the industry with our innovative technology-agnostic solutions for the most challenging contamination projects.
Our Approach to PFAS
Advancing PFAS Destruction
PFAS has become the defining remediation challenge of this generation. VIYA helps technical teams move from uncertainty and ambiguity to defined strategies and approaches designed to immobilize, transform, and reduce PFAS with greater confidence.
Know What’s Worked, Ask What Could Work
Teams managing contaminated sites work with VIYA because they value remediation approaches grounded in defensible science, validated under field conditions, and adapted to site-specific constraints.
They are not simply asking, “Where has this worked before?” They are asking, “How should the approach be refined for the conditions here?” That is the question VIYA is designed to answer.
