What Makes BAM™ Unique

Our Flagship Sorption Technology

BAM™ is a pyrolyzed, recycled cellulosic biomass product (>80% fixed carbon) manufactured from a proprietary blend of organic materials. Its diverse honeycomb structure delivers a total surface area of up to 1,133 m²/g and an estimated half-life of 500 years, giving BAM extraordinary capacity to hold and treat contaminants over the long term.

Why is it Unique?

Unlike granular activated carbon, which adsorbs contaminants to its surface and quickly develops a bio-film that blocks further uptake, BAM’s honeycomb pores absorb contaminants internally. This prevents surface microfilm buildup and sustains microbial colonization for continuous, maintenance-free degradation long after a single application.

What are the benefits?

Application

Built to Support Complex Contaminant Treatment

BAM’s diverse pore-size distribution makes it efficient at storing CO2, treatment chemistries, and contaminants ranging from large-chain hydrocarbons to small chemical compounds — creating a favorable environment for the long-term destruction of contaminants.

Through ongoing research, VIYA has demonstrated BAM’s success treating 1,4-dioxane and PFAS, two emerging contaminants of growing regulatory concern. BAM performs in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions and works alone or alongside chemical oxidation and reduction chemistries, allowing our team to choose the right treatment strategy for each site’s specific contaminant profile.
