Our History

A Legacy of Innovation

For over 30 years, two trusted organizations built independent legacies, pioneering their own fields of remediation and earning the confidence of asset owners and environmental consultants.

McMillan-McGee (Mc²) is Founded

  • Founded in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by Dr. Bruce C.W. McGee, Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering, University of Alberta).
  • Originally developed to improve bitumen recovery in Northern Alberta, Dr. McGee develops and patents the Electro-Thermal Dynamic Stripping Process (ET-DSP™).
  • ET-DSP™ technology was later evaluated for environmental applications after scientists at UC Berkeley invited Dr. McGee to test the technology at a contaminated site at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
  • The results demonstrated ET-DSP™’s electrical resistive heating technology could effectively mobilize and remove contaminants from soil and groundwater in situ.

Leading the In Situ Thermal Remediation Industry

  • Using three-phase electrical power and subsurface electrodes, ET-DSP™ rapidly heats contaminated zones to mobilize and remove a wide range of contaminants more effectively and quickly than any other conventional remediation methods.
  • ET-DSP™ technology fundamentally changed the way contaminated soil and groundwater are remediated. Helping pioneer the in situ thermal remediation industry forever.
  • ET-DSP™ technology is patented and continuously refined by the in-house R&D team and deployed at contaminated sites across North America and Europe. The technology is used to treat chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, and other complex contaminants, expanding the reach and impact of in situ thermal remediation for soil and groundwater cleanup.

ORIN Remediation Technologies is Founded

  • Founded in Verona, Wisconsin, focused on the precise chemistry of environmental remediation.

Mc² Expands with IT-DSP™ | ORIN Launches Wastewater Group

  • Mc² introduces the Inductive Thermal Dynamic Stripping Process (IT-DSP™) —a hotter, thermal conductive heating technology that removes emerging and persist contamination stuck in complex geology. , The technology was successfully implemented at one of Sweden’s most infamously contaminated sites.
  • ORIN establishes its wastewater treatment group, broadening its environmental service portfolio beyond site remediation

ORIN Re-Brands & BAM™ is Patented

  • ORIN Remediation Technologies rebrands as ORIN Technologies LLC to reflect its expanded, multi-discipline capabilities.
  • In 2017, ORIN patents BAM™ (Bioavailable Absorbent Media) — a proprietary carbon-based platform derived from recyclable biomass.
  • BAM™ acts simultaneously as an absorption medium, a microbial habitat, and a catalyst for contaminant degradation — a peer-tested breakthrough deployed across North America and Europe.
  • That same year, ORIN – in partnership with its strategic partner Fixed Earth Innovations - becomes the first organization in the industry to identify and demonstrate microbes capable of degrading PFAS compounds through natural biological processes while coupled with BAM™.

Two Paths. One Principle.

Brett Winder

Brent Winder

President

Brent Winder is the President of VIYA, where he oversees all aspects of the company’s operations, including project execution, business development, and strategic growth initiatives.

He brings more than 30 years of experience in the environmental industry, with deep technical and operational expertise. His work spans project execution, regulatory compliance, contract management, and client engagement, partnering with both Fortune 500 companies and government agencies to deliver innovative, safe, and high-performance remediation solutions.

Mr. Winder holds a Master of Business Administration from York University and is based in Calgary, Alberta. He has built his career around a strong commitment to protecting and restoring the environment.

Larry Kinsman

Larry Kinsman, PG

Chief Commercial and
Technology Officer

Mr. Kinsman is the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of VIYA Environmental. Mr. Kinsman has over 22 years of experience as a geologist and hydrogeologist in marketing, project development and design, cost estimation, field supervision, and technical support of environmental remediation projects. Mr. Kinsman has also been involved in training regulatory agencies and foreign governments on numerous subjects including remediation technologies and treatment chemistries. Mr. Kinsman is part of the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council Group (ITRC) that developed the original technology/regulatory guidance documents for the in-situ chemical oxidation of soil and groundwater. Mr. Kinsman has assisted in the development of treatment chemistries used for the destruction of organic and inorganic contamination. As a result of this work, Mr. Kinsman has been awarded multiple patents for the development of chemistries to serve the environmental remediation sector as well as the oil and gas industry. Mr. Kinsman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Geology and Earth Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1995.

Clayton Campbell

Clayton Campbell, P. Eng.

Chief Operating Officer

Clayton Campbell is the Chief Operating Officer at VIYA, where he provides executive oversight for all operations, directing the engineering design, deployment, and optimization of advanced thermal remediation systems.

He brings more than 14 years of experience leading complex, multi-site in situ thermal remediation (ISTR) programs worldwide.

His expertise includes Electrical Resistive Heating (ERH), Thermal Conductive Heating (TCH), and Steam-Enhanced Extraction (SEE), with accountability for technical performance, cost, schedule, safety, and regulatory compliance across projects in North America, Europe, and South America.

Mr. Campbell led the invention and development of VIYA’s TCH technology, IT-DSP™, driving advancements in system performance, reliability, and efficiency in thermal remediation. He holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Dalhousie University.

Scott Craig

Chief Operating Officer

As a Chief Operating Officer at VIYA Environmental and Principal at ORIN Technologies, Scott brings thirty + years of environmental contracting experience in project design, cost estimation, field supervision, and technical support of environmental remediation projects. His expertise includes chemical remediation design and implementation (in-situ and ex-situ), permit assistance, construction oversight, system startup, system operation, and maintenance. He’s spearheaded projects including soil vapor extraction, air sparging, pump and treat, liquid ring extraction, bioventing, landfill gas and leachate extraction, and chemical remediation work at over 100 sites. He’s also deeply experienced in programmable logic controllers, ladder logic programming, telemetry, and remote-control data acquisition programs. Mr. Craig holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin– Stevens Point.

Tracy Grierson

Tracy Grierson, CPA

VP of Finance

Tracy Grierson is the Vice President, Finance & Accounting at VIYA, where she provides financial leadership across the organization, overseeing accounting and reporting, financial planning and analysis, treasury and risk management, tax compliance, and systems transformation.

She brings more than 25 years of senior financial leadership experience across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.

Her expertise includes financial integration, strategic planning, operational transformation, and scalable growth management, with accountability for financial performance, reporting, governance, and long-term value creation across complex and evolving organizations.

Since joining VIYA, Ms. Grierson has led the financial integration of a newly consolidated group of companies, standardizing processes and building a scalable financial foundation to support growth and future value creation strategies. She previously served in senior finance leadership roles across multiple industries, including seven years as a fractional CFO supporting growth-stage and mission-driven organizations, and ten years at EY, where she advanced to Senior Manager leading complex audits and public offering engagements across Canada and the United States.

Karen Rever

Karen Rever

Director, Legal
and Compliance 

Karen Rever is the Director of Legal and Compliance at VIYA, where she leads corporate governance, regulatory compliance, risk management and legal strategy.

She brings over three years of experience in the remediation environmental industry, with a strong focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance initiatives.

Prior to joining VIYA, Ms. Rever worked for the law firm Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, and electrical utility provider ENMAX, where her experience included divestiture due diligence, contract analysis, and regulatory matters. Ms. Rever holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Laws/Juris Doctorate (LLB/JD) from Dalhousie University.

Lucas is a Thermal systems operations manager at RMc², VIYA partner. He has over eight years of professional experience in environmental restoration technologies, with a strong focus on thermal remediation systems and projects of varying size and complexity. He leads the execution and operational management of remediation projects in Brazil, ensuring alignment between field activities and system performance requirements.

Business Development Consultant

Nicolas is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer with strong background in environmental remediation system design, engineering and operations, he served as the general manager for RMc² (Reconditec McMillan-McGee JV) for 7 years, leading thermal remediation projects in Latin America and he is now the Senior Business Consultant for VIYA Environmental.
