An agricultural co-op in eastern Wisconsin had Alachlor-contaminated groundwater at concentrations of 12,000 µg/L within a 1,190 ft² source area. A prior excavation attempt failed to achieve meaningful concentration reductions, necessitating an alternative in-situ treatment approach.
Following a successful treatability test confirming BAM effectiveness for Alachlor, a field-scale treatment was conducted using 12 direct injection points to cover the 1,190 ft² treatment area. BAM (pyrolized cellulosic material) was injected via DPT to achieve distribution throughout the impacted zone.
Post-treatment monitoring confirmed a 50% reduction in Alachlor concentrations within 24 hours of BAM injection, increasing to 97.9% total reduction within 40 days. Treatment was delivered through 12 direct injection points covering the 1,190 ft² source area at the eastern Wisconsin agricultural co-op. The result demonstrated BAM’s effectiveness for herbicide-contaminated groundwater in a case where conventional excavation had previously failed to achieve meaningful concentration reductions. The treatability test conducted prior to field-scale injection confirmed BAM’s applicability for Alachlor, and the field results validated those bench-scale findings.
