Why Bioremediation?
Nature's Most Powerful Remediation Tool
Bioremediation leverages the natural or enhanced activity of subsurface microorganisms to break down contaminants in place. When properly designed and implemented, it can be one of the most cost-effective and sustainable approaches to site cleanup—reducing or eliminating the need for costly excavation, above-ground treatment systems, or long-term pump-and-treat operations.
Key Advantages Include:
Efficiency
Degradation and defluorination happen within the treatment zone, reducing reliance on expensive off-site disposal, incineration, or media replacement.
Effectiveness
The introduction of microorganisms to the remediation process allows for permanent destruction of volatile contaminants like PFAS, not just disposal or containment, which has a risk of regeneration into the environment.
Environmental Impact
GAC, ion exchange, and foam fractionation transfer PFAS to a secondary waste stream requiring off-site disposal or incineration. At sites with ongoing source loading, this creates perpetual liability rather than closure. Destruction within the treatment zone reduces secondary waste generation and long-term risk
Working With Us
Transparent, Customized Solutions
VIYA’s remediation programs are built from the ground up based on a thorough understanding of site-specific conditions, regulatory context, and client objectives. Our process is rigorous, collaborative, and transparent at every stage.
Phase 1 — Site Characterization Review
We review existing data to understand contaminant distribution, subsurface conditions, and biological potential before recommending any treatment approach.
Phase 2 — Lab-Based Treatability Testing
Where warranted, we run bench-scale studies to confirm chemistry selection, establish dosing parameters, and identify any site-specific interferences before field deployment.
Phase 3 — Remedial Design & Regulatory Support
We work alongside your engineers and consultants to finalize the design, assist with regulatory submittals, and ensure the approach is defensible and approvable.
Phase 4 — Field Implementation
VIYA mobilizes purpose-built field equipment to deliver treatment chemistry safely and precisely, with real-time oversight and documentation.
Phase 5 — Performance Monitoring
We track biological and chemical performance indicators—including contaminant concentrations, daughter product trends, ORP, and microbial data—to assess progress and guide next steps.
Phase 6 — Adaptive Management
Remediation rarely proceeds in a straight line. VIYA remains engaged to interpret monitoring results, troubleshoot performance issues, and optimize treatment programs as conditions evolve.
Our Bioremediation Services
Making Remediation Work Harder
VIYA supplies oxygen release compounds to stimulate aerobic degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons, paired with bacterial inocula and nutrients to accelerate treatment in systems where natural attenuation is insufficient. Our bioremediation solutions, especially when used as a pre-treatment or finisher to thermal or chemical oxidation treatment approaches, significantly improve remediation speed and results.

Bioremediation Solutions in Action
Nearly 100% PFAS Reduction Through Integrated Treatment
Historical firefighter training had left groundwater at the site impacted by persistent PFAS contamination, requiring a treatment strategy capable of addressing both immediate concentrations and long-term performance.
VIYA developed an integrated biological solution combining BAM Ultra®, specialized PFAS-degrading bacteria, calcium peroxide, and electrooxidation. Each component played a distinct role in capturing, degrading, and treating PFAS within the affected groundwater.
This combined approach achieved nearly 100% PFAS reduction within the treatment area, with sustained performance demonstrating the value of pairing biological treatment with complementary remediation technologies.
